5 ideas to shop ethically this Christmas

Christmas
a wonderful time of the year where family reunites, delicious food is on the table and gifts are exchanged. At Club Med, we’re all about giving love and gifts to family and friends but we’re also conscious of the impact this can have on our environment in our continuous commitment towards sustainability.

Discover below five ideas on how to make your Christmas shopping a little bit more sustainable this year while still pleasing your loved ones with ethical Christmas gifts they’ll never forget about!

1.      Give unique memories

Holidays

Who wouldn’t want a holiday for Christmas?! Surprise your loved one with a weekend away or a relaxing week somewhere in the world – the perfect way to create unique memories. Looking for inspiration? Discover many destinations this way.

Events ticket

Music lover? Festivals or concert ✔
Food lover? Cooking lesson ✔
Art lover? Art gallery or exhibit tickets ✔

You get the idea. Keep an eye out for local events and make it your amazing Christmas gift.

Experiences

Always wanted to go whale watching or bungee jumping? There are so many experiences to try both locally and overseas, it makes the perfect gift for all budgets. And why not treat yourself to the same gift so you can also share the joy?

Memberships

Whether your loved ones are gym junkies or beauty box addicts, there are many options of memberships to choose from. Rather than one gift in December, they’ll love receiving this gift all year long.

2.      Give your time

This is not always the most common way of gifting but sometimes giving your own time can go a long way. Have a special skill you can help with like gardening or painting? Create your own voucher to give away some of your time!

Know friends that need a babysitter few times a year or a car to borrow? Organise it and surprise them with your kindness!

3.      Upcycle existing objects

Before you throw away old furniture or toys, think to yourself if it could have a second chance with a bit of a touch-up? You’d be surprised how easy it is to repaint small furnishing or repurpose objects for a brand new life.

Not sure where to start? Check these awesome upcycling ideas from a new lamp to a jewelry frame organizer. They will make amazing ethical Christmas gifts.

4.      Bake some yummy treats

Something as simple as food can make someone’s Christmas! And why not learn a skill too? Between cupcakes and savoury cakes, there are many yummy treats to please your loved ones.

Not really into cooking? Look in your local chocolate store, gifting delicious chocolate made with love can only go right.

5.      Buy ethical and local

Of course, we’re not all crafty with an ever-lasting supply of old furniture to upcycle lying around.

So for eco-friendly gifts, why not find a local artisan and buy something you know has been created with love and with a great story behind it.

Check your local artists selling paintings, sculptures, home decoration
Get information on any organic stores nearby or local wine producers.

So remember for this Christmas, it’s all about giving sustainably and ethically. Give unique memories, give your time, give something you made, give to the local community by buying something different.

Happy holidays!

#HowTo... Give Kids and Teens the Best Holiday

BlogHeroPicturekids.jpg

At Club Med, you can be sure that your children will leave happy. From 4 months to 17 years old, we have Kids Clubs with dedicated activities for each age, all under the watchful eye of professionals. You won't feel guilty to let your kids at Kids Clubs because they will beg you to let them go!

Kids Club for all ages

Baby Club Med keeps babies from 4–23 months safe and engaged under the watchful eye of caring, trained professionals. The tiniest member of the family benefits from special attention, indoor and outdoor playtime and naptime. The baby room, open 24-hours, includes sterilisers, blenders and bottle-warmers for convenience.

In other words, yes it's truly possible: you can feel relaxed and enjoy hassle-free holidays with a baby.

Petit Club Med Parents can savour guilt free relaxation while toddlers aged 2–3 years have the time of their life with professional, trained staff (G.Os). Innovative activities stimulate creativity, like face painting, puppet shows, arts and crafts. When they are worn out with fun, they unwind with pyjama parties.

Watch your young kids on holidays making the most of it!

Mini Club Med Children aged 4–10 years have their own unique adventures at Mini Club Med hosted by trained professionals. From Petit Chef cooking experiments, to sailing and ski lessons, new activities keep curious minds engaged and entertained. Lasting memories are created each day, and cemented over supervised meals with new friends.

Professional staff, or G.Os, supervise movie nights, discos and teens-only excursions.

Trust us: at Club Med, you won't hear a word about boring holidays from your teenagers!

Juniors Club Med

Every season is full of exciting discoveries, with water sports and marine exploration at Club Med resorts in Bali, Phuket, Bintan, Cherating Beach, La Plantation d’Albion and La Pointe, as well as all-inclusive snow sports at Hokkaido, Valmorel, and Peisey Vallandry.

Creating family holiday memories

Mouths of Mums

Nikki Hills, publisher of the popular Mouths of Mums parenting site, recounts her memorable family holiday at Club Med Bali with her husband and three children, Toby (14), Emma (11), and Abby (9):

From theme nights, to excursions and activities, there’s always so much on offer at Club Med. We ate breakfast together every morning and then the children were off to Kids Club, ready for a soccer tournament, golf lessons, tennis or ‘dance spectacular’ rehearsals. Toby loved Juniors Club Med, which is a ‘hang out’ area for teenagers, with lounges, pool tables and X-Box machines, right by the pool and bar so they could order as many soft drinks as they like!

Club Med Bali

My husband and I spent blissful mornings running along Nusa Dua, or relaxing by the Zen pool. Mid-morning, we would grab a barista-made coffee and sit by the huge trapeze to watch the girls show off their new tricks. The G.Os are so engaged with the children and we felt safe knowing they had the wellbeing of our family at heart. Toby was free to hang out with his new mates, and we knew he was safe in the Resort. Club Med is like a break from life! No one has to worry about what’s for dinner or how much things cost. I don’t think my kids have ever seen me so relaxed. It was a week of total freedom – mind, body and spirit.
