Interview : Emma Isaacs and her Bali Family Experience

Founder and Global CEO of Business Chicks, supporting Australian business women, and Author of “Winging It” book, Emma Isaacs is a busy entrepreneur. She is passionate about encouraging women to be bold, to be courageous and to take risks.

As a Mum of 5 (enough for a basketball team, she says) Emma Isaacs needed a break from her never-stopping schedule of Mum-Entrepreneur and chose Club Med Bali for her well-deserved me and family time.

Want to know more about Emma’s holidays in Bali as well as tips to disconnect and how to have a successful holiday? We had the pleasure to ask her a few questions about her relaxing stay.

Note: All images below are courtesy of Emma Isaacs, and have been shared with permission.

If you could describe your family holiday to Club Med Bali in 3 words, what would they be and why?

🙌 I’d say “freeing” because to be able to choose how much I have my kids with me or away from me brings a huge sense of freedom.

🎉 Then “fun” because we always love the array of activities from circus school through to the nightly concerts.

😌 And finally “stress free” as I love how everything is included at Club Med and you don’t have to worry about receiving a massive bill at the end of the vacation.

emma isaacs 2.jpg

Tell us about your Club Med Bali experience as a family with 5 young children.

It was awesome because of the affordable childcare for our baby. The local nannies at Club Med Bali are true dedicated to what they do and we always feel happy being able to leave the baby knowing she's in great hands.

What were some of the activities your family did at Club Med Bali?

The kids were really into the Kids Club and they did the trapeze every day. They also made friends from other countries and spent a lot of time exploring the resort.

Did you manage to find a balance between "us" time and "me" time while on holiday at the resort?

Yes that’s the beauty of Club Med! We found ourselves with many free hours during the day (guilt free!) and would congregate as a family over meals.

emma isaacs 4.jpg

With such a busy work and family schedule, how do you find time to organise and take holidays? Any tips for fellow busy mums?

My advice would be to sit down and plan the year ahead. Even though you know there’s going to be an expense and lots of organisation, just rip the band-aid off and book a holiday in. Breaks like this one, to Club Med, keep you motivated to work hard knowing that there is a holiday at the end.

What are your top tips to disconnect from business/routine while on holidays?

I’ve been en entrepreneur my whole life so there is no such thing as truly switching off and I’m absolutely ok with that. I actually find it less stressful if I can check in with the office for a tiny bit of time during the holiday and then I find I’m free to focus on recharging when I’m sure everything is taken care of back home (which it always is!)

How does travel effect the way you work, your creativity, productivity and view on priorities?

I always find I’m far more creative and inspired when I prioritise vacation time.

emma isaacs.jpg

What country / holiday has inspired you the most in your life and why?

I’m fortunate enough to have experienced a safari in Africa, exploring the raids in Morocco, sipping cocktails on Necker Island in the Caribbean and frequently visiting New York with girlfriends, but anywhere that I’m able to make sure the kids are having fun and I’m also getting a break will be top of my list.

What is the next Club Med resort you would like to experience and why?

Cancun in Mexico! Living in LA means we often get to Mexico but I have not yet made it to Cancun so that’s next on my list.

All You Need To Know About A Holiday To The Maldives

KANC_LUXE_A115_016.jpg

Crystal clear oceans, beautiful white sand, and seas teeming with marine life…we’re pretty sure the Maldives is high up on everyone’s bucket list, and why wouldn’t it be? Also known as paradise on earth, this small nation of islands is the ultimate escape for those seeking luxury, romance and relaxation.

If you’re planning your dream Maldives getaway, we’ve put together all you need to know for your holiday to paradise.

Best time to go to the Maldives

In terms of weather, the best time to head to the Maldives is the dry season, between December and April, where you’ll enjoy beautiful blue skies and little rain. However, keen divers and surfers should head to the Maldives between May to November.

How to get there

While there are no direct flights available from Australia’s capital cities, the Maldives is quite easy to reach. Expect a travel time of around 14 hours from Sydney, transiting through Singapore to Male; alternatively, take Etihad Airways and transit in Abu Dhabi. Once you reach Male Airport, speedboats await to take you to your final destination.

Visas and Vaccinations

Upon arrival at Male Airport, you’ll be issued a free thirty-day tourist visa. There are no additional required vaccinations to enter the Maldives at this stage.

What to do and see in the Maldives

Play and paddle in paradise

The Maldives is an endless turquoise paradise, where warm waters are brimming with coral and sea life. You can do as much, or as little, as you like…consider it your playground, where you can swim, relax, surf or dive; spending your days by the water.

• The reefs are abundant with sea life, so the adventurous can take a dive trip! The Maldives has some of the best diving spots in the world, and you’ll swim amongst manta rays, as well as explore underwater caverns. • Stand-up paddleboarding is a fun way to stay fit while on holidays, especially when you have beautiful calm oceans. • Explore the coral reefs beneath the tropical lagoons, and snorkel amongst lionfish and baby reef sharks. • Make a lasting impact and give back to this wonderful island nation by helping with coral rebuilding.

Catch a break with incredible surf breaks

For the surfers out there, the Maldives boasts some of the best reef breaks in the word. Catch the best waves from April through to October, and get in early to avoid drop-ins!

Chickens is considered one of the best waves in the world, especially on big swell days. Intermediate and advanced surfers can expect to ride these spectacular barrels for over 500m. This is certainly one to tick off the bucket list! • Named after the local Coca-Cola factory, Cokes is awesome for good swell and a long ride. • If you’re a beginner, consider riding a wave at You’ll find smaller breaks, perfect for cruising over the turquoise waters.

Rejuvenate your body and treat your tastebuds

There’s nothing better than to relax and disconnect when you’re on an island and far, far away from the daily grind. Use your trip to the Maldives as a great opportunity to treat your body and soul, and to indulge in fresh food.

• Enjoy a massage on the tranquil beaches, and let the sound of the waves lapping at the ocean lull you into bliss. • Begin your morning with yoga on the beach. You’ll find no better way to kick start your day! • Savour incredible fresh produce – we’re talking about fruit cut from the tree in the morning and served in the afternoon. • Enjoy your seafood caught fresh from the ocean. Sashimi has never tasted better!

Our best travel tips

• The Maldives is not just for honeymooners! It’s also a great destination for families, considering the private islands, shallow beaches and calm, clear waters. • For the ultimate romantic escape, couples simply can’t go past the overwater villas at Club Med Kani or the Finolhu Villas. Think privacy, luxury and romance – plus, you’ll have a staircase or ladder that descends straight into the ocean. • The national currency of the Maldives is the Rufiyaa, however it’s more useful to have US Dollars handy. Many resorts, including Club Med, accept credit cards, which minimises the need to change your money. • The Maldives is an Islamic nation, and as such visitors aren’t allowed to bring liquor into the country. If you do have liquor with you, often it will be confiscated or held at the airport, so we’d recommend leaving your duty free shopping for when you return to Australia.

All You Need to Know About a Holiday to Bali, Indonesia

BlogHeroPicturebali.jpg

Towering coconut palms and long, sandy beaches under the warm tropical sun… it’s no wonder Bali is one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations. Bali has a rich cultural and spiritual history, with fragrant foods, temples and traditional festivals just waiting to be discovered.Sound like a dream? It definitely is. If you’re planning a holiday to Bali, here’s everything you need to know about this tropical paradise…

Best time to go to Bali

Depends on what you’re after! May – July are the peak months of dry season. If you’re a surfer, catch the best waves between April – October, and if you’re looking for culture, don’t miss the Nyepi Festival in March or the Galungan Festival in February.

How to get there

Bali is only a 6 hour flight from Sydney or a 4 hour flight from Perth. Virgin, Jetstar and Garuda all fly direct.

Visas and Vaccinations

We have some good news: Australian tourists no longer require a visa to visit Bali for less than 30 days. And while it’s not required, it’s recommended you check up on your shots: Tetnus and Diptheria, Hepatitis A and B. It’s important to note that some Club Med Kids Clubs will ask for proof of immunization for the little ones!

Your guide on what to do and see in Bali

One of the best things about a holiday to Bali is immersing yourself in the rich culture, and making the most of beautiful surroundings. From surfing the seas to savasana in yoga, we’ve got our top picks below.

Embrace local traditions

_DSF8453.jpg

✔️ Participate in a traditional Balinese tea ceremony

✔️ Learn how to create delectable delicacies such as lawar or bebek betutu at a Balinese cooking class.

Chase your adrenaline

BALC_G218_024.jpg

✔️ Soar through the air on a flying trapeze amongst the palms!

✔️ Enjoy a competitive match of beach volleyball on the sandy shores of Nusa Dua.

✔️ Try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding or windsurfing alongside pristine shores

✔️ Venture to UIuwatu or Padang Padang to experience the very best swells Bali has to offer – surf on waves of up to 12 ft!

Embark on an adventure

BALC_F218_038.jpg

✔️ Escape to the Uluwatu Temple to uncover beautifully crafted Balinese architecture and spirituality, or watch the sun set from a cliff towering above the seas

✔️ Visit world-heritage listed Borobudur and experience Buddhist spirituality and history first-hand

✔️ Take the plunge and feel the thrill of white water rafting down the Ayung River and through the dense Balinese jungle.

A few more helpful tips before your trip to Bali…

  • Wild animals look cute, but be wary! Not only will wild monkeys try to steal your food, but they might get in to your luggage too. Keep a lookout for these little critters and take photos, but keep your distance.

  • Rainy season doesn’t mean constant downpours. While the weather is out of anyone’s control, often rain is limited to a few brief spells rather than a constant downpour.

  • Haggling is okay for products and services but save it for markets and stores. Most international resorts and hotels in Bali, including Club Med Bali, have fixed rates within the resort.
